The Migros Culture Percentage Dance Festival Steps offers children and young people a contemporary approach to contemporary dance. Through more than 70 school workshops in all parts of the country and seven school performances by Belgian Compagnie Circumstances, the programme 2026 is aimed at participants aged ten and above and combines artistic practice with a shared theatre experience.

Since the introduction of school mediation in 2004, around 30'000 students from German-speaking Switzerland, French-speaking Switzerland, and Ticino have already benefited from it.

School workshops

At the heart of the programme is a combined mediation format: workshops held at school prepare classes for attending a dance performance as part of the festival. Together with professional dance educators, participants explore movement sequences, become familiar with the music and thematic elements of the choreographies, and gain hands-on physical experience. The focus is deliberately placed on experiencing dance – openly, with all senses, and without performance pressure.

School performances

A special highlight of the school mediation is the school performance by the Belgian company Circumstances with the dance production «Beyond». Energetic yet poetic, the performance brings together dance, acrobatics and pole dance in a visually striking exploration of collaboration, trust and overcoming boundaries. Choreographed by Piet Van Dycke, the piece demonstrates how diversity and togetherness can open new perspectives.
