We want to grow, to learn, and to embrace new perspectives. That’s why we are joining forces with Theater HORA.
Based in Zurich, Theater HORA is one of Switzerland’s most renowned independent theatre, dance and performance companies. For many years, it has collaborated with leading artists from across the country and abroad, presenting productions on stages throughout Switzerland and internationally. At the core of its work is the HORA ensemble, made up of professional performers with IV-certified cognitive disabilities.
This valuable collaboration helps us reflect on our own blind spots and think about accessibility in broader, more inclusive ways.
What does this look like in practice?
Since 2024, Theater HORA has been an integral part of our Sounding Board. During the selection process, its members gain insight into the programme and share their feedback. These perspectives are then passed on to the programming team and fed into the festival’s artistic planning.
We are also continuing an initiative launched in 2024: HORA Tip, a curated selection of programme productions particularly appreciated by HORA’s artists..
New is HORA says: short videos in which HORA performers share their thoughts on individual works. These digital introductions are, for once, not created by dramaturgs, but by people who themselves take to the stage. HORA says ist being published in January.
Our goal is to make Steps accessible to as many people as possible. We are aware of the limits of our own perspective and are delighted by this valuable opportunity to collaborate with Theater HORA.
