The celebrated dance company from Sweden returns to Steps! They have paired two works into one outstanding double bill: «Spirit Willing» by Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond from Canada, and «ima» by France-based choreographer Sharon Eyal. This combination is undoubtedly a unique gem of current international dance creation.
With «Spirit Willing», Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond pay tribute to human endurance. The choreography explores the tension that arises when the desire to act is present, yet the body hesitates. How do we take that step? In their first collaboration with GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, the duo creates a dynamic field of tension that holds up a mirror to the audience: now is the time to act – with courage, creativity, and trust in our ability to shape the future.
Sharon Eyal’s unmistakable style is reflected once again in her latest choreography for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. Precision, sensuality, and intensity also characterise this work – her most personal creation to date. The title offers a hint to the theme: «ima» means mother in Hebrew. Accompanied by pulsating electronic music by French composer Josef Laimon, a hypnotic maelstrom creates an immersive experience.
Simply put: The evening consists of two parts. Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond have created the first choreography. It's about human endurance and the courage to shape the future. The duo is working with the dance company from Gothenburg for the first time. The other piece is called «ima». It is a new creation by Sharon Eyal. Ima means mother in Hebrew. It is a personal work on the subject of connection and loss.

Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond have lived and worked in Vancouver for almost two decades. They are the creative minds behind the company Out Innerspace. For ten years, the choreographers were two of the most important contributors to Kidd Pivot, Canada’s best-known dance theatre company. They travel internationally as an artistic duo and will be guests at GöteborgsOperans Danskompani for the first time in 2025.
Sharon Eyal is one of the most important choreographic voices of our time. In 2013, the exceptional French-based artist founded her own company, Sharon Eyal Dance S-E-D. In addition to her own productions, this award-winning choreographer has created more than thirty productions for international dance companies to date.
