“The Others” tells the story of four people living in a strangely isolated world. Aside from them, there is nothing: an empty space surrounded by invisible, impenetrable walls – a plastic hell on earth.

To distract themselves, they dance: with virtuosity, strength, and extraordinary intensity. Their golden rule: new day, new dance. But what if this no longer is enough? What happens then? Will they manage to escape their dreary plight?

Anton Lachky has created a modern fairy tale that explores one of the – if not THE – most pressing issues of the present with a subtle sense of urgency: the ecological crisis and its planetary consequences.

Using his signature choreographic approach, he translates an entire discourse into a bodily experience.

Accompanied by Eléonore Valère-Lachky’s touching voice-over, the performance spirits the audience away into a fantasy world that cleverly raises questions about how to think and act in the present.

“The Others” is a breathless, lightning-fast, and enthralling experience for audiences from the age of six. The production won the Prix Maeterlinck in 2022 and was awarded a distinction by the Belgian Ministry of Education.

Following its premiere, the piece has toured festivals all over Europe and will be presented in Switzerland for the first time as part of Migros Culture Percentage Dance Festival Steps.

Simply put: Four people dance in quick movements on an empty, white stage. A voice tells a fairy tale. It deals with the ecological crisis. The dancers are trapped in this fantasy world. Will they be able to escape?

Anton Lachky

Anton Lachky was born in Slovakia and was educated as a dancer, among other places, at the Konzervaórium J.L. Bellu in Banská Bystrica and at P.A.R.T.S in Brussels under the direction of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. He was a member of Akram Khan Company in London from 2004 to 2006, which is also when he began working as a teacher and choreographer. Aside from his own productions, Lachky has devised choreographies for international companies and institutions including the Iceland Dance Company, GöteborgOperans Danskompani, Scottish Dance Theatre, Sadler’s Wells, Helsinki City Theatre, and many more. Characteristic for Lachky’s artistic work is a unique combination of diverse geographical influences and movement styles. Over the course of his career, he developed the compositional technique “puzzle work,” which he not only teaches but also uses to create his demanding and strikingly virtuoso choreographies.
