«Beyond» is an energetic and poetic performance for anyone aged six and over. With the help of ladders of different sizes, six performers create a dynamic and unstable playing field for each other, which they explore together. The members of Circumstances dance, climb, float and risk everything in the choreography by Belgian Piet Van Dycke.

Souhail Marchiche and Mehdi Meghari have their finger on the pulse of the times with their company Dyptik: Different dance styles mix to create an energetic cocktail that has become their recipe for success. In «Le Grand Bal», the two hip-hop choreographers from France investigate the phenomenon of dance fever and how it spreads to other people.

The celebrated dance company from Sweden is back at Steps! They have merged two pieces into one outstanding double bill:«ima» by France-based choreographer Sharon Eyal and «Spirit Willing», a new creation by Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond from Canada. This unique combination is undoubtedly a promising gem of current international dance creation.

Sold-out shows and euphoric audiences: that’s «Hammer». The successful choreography by Swede Alexander Ekman has caused a worldwide sensation since its premiere in 2022. Now the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani’s biggest hit to date is finally coming to Switzerland! The two-part evening skilfully moves between benevolent community offline and self-staged egomania online – and back again. What is real and what is a façade?

What happens when two artists meet for the first time? This dance evening has the answer. What began as a risky blind date soon turned into a stroke of luck: in 2024, Akram Khan brought Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Hannes Langolf together and let them collaborate for ten days. The experiment worked and will continue with the Swiss guest artist Sarafina Beck.

«Dances Like a Bomb» is a reclaiming of the ageing body by multi-award-winning dance innovators Junk Ensemble, performed by leading dance artists Finola Cronin (formerly of Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal) and Luc Dunberry (formerly of Sasha Waltz & Guests). Celebrating the strength and beauty of mature bodies and challenging the cult of youth, the performers are heroic, vulnerable, comedic, acerbic, and completely themselves.

The Canadian collective People Watching fuses contemporary dance with circus and physical theatre to create an unforgettable experience. In «Play Dead», the six artists explore the many facets of human behaviour. To do this, they transform the stage into a typical flat. Within its four walls, the characters create a place where interpersonal relationships are explored, dissected and reimagined.

In 2026, Hofesh Shechter will bring his junior company to Switzerland. Together, we will celebrate the world premiere of his latest creation, «IN THE BRAIN», as part of Steps. The starting point of the choreography is a 15-minute piece that Shechter created for the Martha Graham Company in 2022. Together with his young ensemble, the exceptional London-based artist has developed a full-length play from this.

Institutions meet the independent scene, contemporary dance meets breaking: «Fine Lines» and «Power: Still Going Strong» brings together two choreographies from different artistic backgrounds. Two women whose encounter gets under your skin; two men who have made history with their story. Both pieces are now making their way to Switzerland for the first time and will share an evening together as part of Steps.
