Il y aura de la danse – et pas seulement sur scène : les artistes de Steps proposent des ateliers pendant le festival, offrant un aperçu de leur travail. Cette année, certains ateliers sont exclusivement réservés aux professionnel-les de la danse, tandis que d'autres sont ouverts à toutes et tous ayant une certaine expérience du mouvement. Vous trouverez plus de détails dans la liste ci-dessous. Nous organisons ces ateliers avec nos théâtres partenaires, qui fixent la tarification.
Shechter II
Workshop pour les danseur-euses professionnel-les avec Chien-Ming Chang
Hofesh Shechter est l’un des artistes contemporains les plus captivants du Royaume-Uni. Son style unique de chorégraphie, imprégné d’honnêteté et d’une physicalité brute, a valu à Hofesh et à sa compagnie une reconnaissance mondiale.
Dirigé par Chien-Ming Chang, cet atelier offre aux participant·e·s l’opportunité d’explorer le style de mouvement distinctif de la compagnie.
L’atelier comprendra un échauffement et se basera sur des extraits du répertoire ainsi que des images et inspirations issues de la dernière création de Hofesh, IN THE BRAIN, pour explorer son processus créatif.
Chien-Ming Chang, directeur de répétition pour Shechter II, est originaire de Taïwan et a été formé à l’Université Nationale des Arts de Taipei. Il a rejoint la Hofesh Shechter Company en 2008 et a depuis interprété de nombreuses œuvres majeures de Hofesh.

Partnering workshop pour les professionnel-les
avec Sabine Van Rensburg et Natasha Patterson
Cet atelier invite des artistes expérimentés en danse, cirque ou acrobaties à explorer l’art du partenariat et du contrepoids. Animé par deux artistes de People Watching, les participant·e·s apprendront des techniques fondamentales, des méthodes de transfert de poids du corps et des outils créatifs pour découvrir de nouveaux points de contact avec un ou une partenaire.
L’accent est mis sur la création d’un langage physique commun qui élargit la liberté et les possibilités dans la danse-contact et du mouvement collaboratif.
S’inspirant de leurs parcours dans le cirque (Sabine avec Zip Zap Circus et Natasha avec le Cirque du Soleil), les artistes partagent avec plaisir leur mélange unique d’acrobaties, de mouvement et de théâtre physique, avec un accent particulier sur les techniques de contrepoids.
Une occasion unique de s'entraîner avec la compagnie de danse de St. Gall et de rencontrer ces artistes exceptionnels.

Circumstances
Workshop on stage with Piet Van Dycke
This BEYOND-inspired workshop invites participants to explore the ladder installation and the core principles behind the piece’s creation through movement and playful physical tasks. The focus is on carrying, balancing, and moving in pairs, using simple partner acrobatics to build trust, coordination, and mutual support. A dynamic and supportive environment encourages participants to connect, create shared balance, challenge themselves and engage with the unique movement language of BEYOND.
The workshop is led by Piet Van Dycke, artistic director of the multidisciplinary company Circumstances, which is currently touring internationally with several acclaimed productions. Combining his background in mathematics with contemporary dance and circus, the Belgian choreographer creates innovative works that blur boundaries.
Welcome are participants with several years of movement experience (e.g., contemporary dance, physical theatre, acrobatics) who feel comfortable taking responsibility within a group. A certain level of body awareness, focus, and trust is important for ensuring the safety of the workshop

In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore the core movements that shape Sphynx. Led by the choreographer, Rafaële Giovanola, the session includes a warm-up, a series of tasks to develop physical awareness, and a guided exploration of the choreographic world of Sphynx, including physical approaches used in the piece such as its distinctive walks. Designed to encourage curiosity and playfulness, the workshop offers a welcoming space to engage creatively with the physicality of Sphynx.
Rafaële Giovanola is one of the most important contemporary choreographers and mediators. Born in Switzerland, she has been successfully creating dance pieces for over two decades – both for her own company CocoonDance and for internationally renowned ensembles such as tanzmainz.

Milena Wiese is a German dancer and member of tanzmainz. She trained at Tanzhaus NRW, the Dance Gymnasium Essen-Werden, and Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam. Since 2019, she has been part of tanzmainz and the original cast of Sphynx by Rafaële Giovanola.
