(LA)HORDE is a force to be reckoned with. The up-and-coming collective is known for grappling with protest and rebellion through dance, which is put squarely on display once again in the impressive performance Room with a View. The twenty ensemble members of the Ballet national de Marseille dance amid world disaster to the intoxicating, restless beat of the renowned French musician and producer Rone as if there were no tomorrow. However, Room with a View is not only the visual interpretation of Rone’s album, which bears the same name, but rather demonstrates in outstanding artistic style the daily shocks felt by our planet and focuses on current processes shaping our world. It is loud, wild and opens up a space on stage for the audience where everything is possible and anything can happen. The projection of sounds, bodies and images brings about inevitable encounters in an explosive composition that results in a unique and visually striking performance.

The collective was founded by Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer and Arthur Harel in 2013. Together, they question codes of contemporary live art and performing arts. The collective has served as Artistic Director of the renowned Ballet national de Marseille since autumn 2019, thereby building an important bridge between the institution and the independent scene. Since taking over the company, which was founded in 1972, they have produced numerous choreographic works, films, video installations and performances, which always revolve around the body and movement. With funding across different genres, the collective develops exciting works that address and deal with current topics and questions. Following Ballet national de Marseille’s brilliant triple-bill debut at Steps in 2012, it is now returning in 2022 to perform the successful Room with a View. Picture: Alice Gavin Boris Camaca
